The National Grid Company (NGC) of Pakistan is a key entity in the country's power sector, responsible for the efficient transmission of electricity from generation sources to distribution companies across the nation. NGC operates and manages the national grid of high-voltage transmission lines and grid stations, with a mandate to ensure reliable and secure power delivery across the Pakistan.

Function:

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) shall report to the Managing Director and serve as the single accountable executive for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation, maintenance, security, and strategic development of Pakistan's national transmission network. The role integrates long-term asset planning, day-to-day grid operations, capital project execution, and enterprise security to ensure compliance with NEPRA standards, optimal asset performance, and alignment with NGC's strategic objectives

Job Description & Responsibilities

The COO shall:

Lead national transmission system availability, safety performance, and incident response related to transmission assets. Develop and execute the strategy aligned with NGC's corporate objectives, National Transmission Plan, and system demand forecasts.

Provide integrated leadership across Asset Planning & Engineering, Field Operations & Maintenance, Project Delivery, Commercial Contracts & Stakeholder Management, and enterprise security. Govern operational and capital resources efficiently, balancing O&M and CAPEX to maximize value for money. Establish and enforce clear operational governance, decision rights, and interface protocols with external stakeholders / aligned companies and other sector participants, consistent with international transmission utility practice. Lead NGC's response to major transmission asset failures, security events, and coordinate restoration activities with relevant system stakeholders.

Serve as the primary operational interface for outage planning, asset availability coordination, and operational data exchange, and coordinate with other sector entities to ensure interoperability and system stability. Ensure continuous operational readiness, safety, and security of transmission assets, in compliance with NEPRA performance and technical standards.

Drive innovation and grid modernization initiatives, including SCADA, asset condition monitoring, predictive analytics, digital substations, and renewable energy integration, to enhance asset resilience, operability, and maintainability under evolving grid conditions.

Required Qualification and Experience:

Must have Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred). A Master's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or Power Systems is highly desirable

Must have minimum 15 years of progressive experience in power sector operations, transmission systems, or large-scale infrastructure organizations, including senior leadership roles.

Required skillset: Operational leadership, financial acumen, power systems & regulatory knowledge, safety & risk management, digital and technology orientation, stakeholder management, and strategic mindset. The position is based at Lahore and shall report to the Managing Director. Pakistani, Foreign and Dual Nationals are eligible to apply.
